OK...we know; you are looking for tickets. Thanks! We're preparing that...for the coming concerts... You'll be able to buy them securely here or even from your mobile/cell phone! You still have time = WE PROMISE! Come back here soon and look ...for your tickets! In the meantime, here are some fun things... (+Thanks for your patience while we build this!) - Well, we finally figured out that maybe we are the largest philharmonic orchestra in Europe!
- Certainly we have more strings than anybody else, that we have heard about!
- For each concert and each recording, we hand-pick our musicians from our regular stable of some 300 of the best musicians in the world. Not 'another dead orchestra,' we carefully choose the right mixture of experts for each concert and each recording (and for each piece of music in a concert or recording) ---FOR YOU--- from our seasoned team of world class expert musicians...people we have often known throughout their careers, and many since they were in conservatory and earlier!
- No, it is not a state orchestra, there are not legions of permanent employees [like in a government agency or classic money-losing city owned concert hall], and there is no nearly bottomless city piggy bank funding the whole thing, or covering up oceans of red ink the typical city orchestras somehow traditionally seem to generate. It has to survive on its own, and on its hearable quality and its consistent quality. It is 100% private, and quite a small business in fact. Based on the professional expertise of a handful of experts, it works on the time tested "Hollywood Model" that exists since the 1950s and 1960s, in Hollywood-obviously, of choosing fine musicians as independent contractors -based on their expertise -in their respective instrument- and their personal 'availability' to do a particular recording or a concert with 'that' music. Yes, it is difficult to constantly recompose the orchestra like this and still get the same spectacular global standard of quality all the time, that you love to hear in the cinema, but that is how such things are done, now for over half a century in the film industry - around the world. It takes real expertise to know whom to choose for each piece of music and how to blend it to so that Hollywood and Bollywood and all the other major film and television capitals of the world get what they want and need in productions for your enjoyment - and they get it every time, here in Prague, for decades!
- For those of you who cannot imagine how this can work, it is a "stable system." Like having a stable of horses, you whose every day who you wish to ride. Like having a stable of world-class, magnificent musicians to choose from, you can choose who to put together in the same music to get the "sound" you want. Yes; it is incredibly difficult to do, but experts can do it! Some people compare it to making fine Scotch whiskey. Yes, single malts are like great soloists; and there are magnificent single malts that everyone who likes them seems to know about. However, by its very nature, a great orchestra or even a fine and comparatively small chamber ensemble is a mixture of sounds styles, techniques, interpretations and "sound. It is like a fine blended Scotch, and connoisseurs know those, too. Whom to choose, how you get them all in the right place at the right time, and finding the right conductor who can "make magic" out of the ensemble of wonderful individual musicians, are only a few of the problems that get faced every day. Needless to say, such musicians are always busy, working for somebody - as they are real people with real families, and they are working, too. In today's world, professionals are working hard, in every discipline, and there is no guaranteed career for anybody, anymore. The motivation of working on a proven and famous orchestra, doing often new and exciting music for coming wonderful films, is a big part of the motivation for these wonderful professional musicians. Talk with them, and you will find out that they are passionate about their art! They love film music, (as do you, or you would not be reading this, in all probability!) We have a lot of wonderful younger musicians, too, both men and women, and from many countries! Don't be too surprised to hear magnificent women soloists, either, please, in our concerts. You may not know who they are yet, but you will, later. [Yes; it is OK to shed a few tears during our performances.] For sure, some of these things may surprise you a little bit, as you watch our City of Prague Philharmonic Orchestra® in a concert. We are very cosmopolitan, very multi-national, 'very fresh,' and even our rehearsals are typically in several languages - in quick comments and funny little jokes between musicians, but mostly the rehearsals are conducted in English!
- In fact, there is a fairly constant stream of wonderful younger musicians - usually with deep performance experience - asking for auditions - but we can only take the best, of course. Yes; the competition is fierce to play with our philharmonic, but we need the best for recordings and concerts, and you only get the best! The same musicians we play with for recording some of the biggest films in the world (films you know and go to see, or have already seen) - and the music you love in those films - we use those same wonderful musicians in our concerts when we are playing for you. There is no B-team or C-team of '2nd & 3rd best' musicians doing concerts or on tour [unlike in some orchestras & ballets; you know who they are...]. We just don't work that way! We want it to be wonderful...every time!
- So whenever you come to hear our orchestra, In Concert, The City of Prague Philharmonic Orchestra®, you know that it is constantly renewing itself with brilliant and magnificently gifted musicians, who love to play for you - whether LIVE, or In Films you love, or on great CD's you want to own at home, hear in the car, at work, on your iPod or MP3 player, while training or just out for a walk with your dog!
- Our variety of professional musical training backgrounds actually makes our orchestra richer in its sound! Music is a kind of living poetry, and we have a lot of wonderful performing poets, so to speak. Our wonderful local and visiting conductors know how to make it all work together - it's their job - and our musicians are so professional, that everyone is 'on board in a flash' for the start of a concert or a recording. These musicians do not need hours or days of agonizing rehearsals - everybody just comes in, sits down, opens the score and starts! Our rehearsals are fun and interesting to watch and hear, even if you don't play in them! (Get ready for Free Video Downloads and Streaming Video for your iPod or MP3 player or SmartPhone of our musicians rehearsing and, frankly, having great fun!)
- It seems like we also do more professional recordings, too, than just about anybody else that we know about! We do over 200+ recording sessions a year for customers from all over the world! Yes, we find our visiting colleagues wonderful hotels, great dinners and taxis, too, when they are in Prague to come record with us...
- There is a little 'inside joke' around Prague that other orchestras depend on The City of Prague Philharmonic Orchestra® -for their own survival- because our musicians play for them, many times, too. The joke is that because we record so many world class films, videos, television programs and serials, and other recordings like video games your kids want you to buy(!) from Sony and Microsoft (and nearly everybody else, it seems), we keep vast numbers of wonderful classical and jazz musicians employed regularly! Yes, in their free time, they go play for other orchestras, too, many of them. It is good for their families and we encourage it! They are really nice people, often great friends, and they need to perform in front of real people who love music too - to stay the best musicians in the world! So, just like in the Olympics, to be the best, you must practice and perform every day!
- So, it basically guarantees that when you will come to hear our Concerts In Prague, or on tour, you be thrilled at the quality of our music and our musicianship! Thanks for coming to hear us play for you!
- =FUN!
