Since its formation in 1992, what is known, currently, as The City of Prague Philharmonic Orchestra^® has consistently grown and been refined under the successful management of Josef Pokluda. Over the years, it has justly earned an enviable reputation as one of the finest orchestras in the world for professional Film, TV and Video Game scoring, and has become the 'philharmonic of choice' for so many.

...The real story behind our philharmonic orchestra...and its even longer tradition...under various names.

Yes, we're happy to tell you the history of the present orchestra, and its predecessors, all working in the same historic and former concert and dance hall in downtown Prague.

A Czech Art Nouveau  + Classicism building, started in 1900 and opened in 1903, it has been the home for live, world-class music for 106+ years.

Although the history of literally generations of predominantly Czech musicians working together in this location is a glorious one to recount, it also has had its deep and painful personal tragedies.

Since 1943, the recording studio located in the Great Hall of this historic cultural center and facility, has been the home of an orchestra that has done great film music and later TV and many other types of music - including for CDs, DVDs, videos, video games, and even ring tones for mobile telephones.

Yet, while some have sought to forget the tragedies that happened to the 'orchestra' and its people who played here, and in many senses, still plays here , and hence "move on" in life,  some of us feel that it is important to remember how this special place -built for music- has survived as a place where wonderful music is still performed and recorded: music that we love, "in our time," too.

In this website, and in related websites, we will tell you the stories and the very 'human histories' about the often enthusiastic people and sometimes very sad events that have shaped and defined this 'living tradition' for great music.

In its current iteration, The City of Prague Philharmonic Orchestra^® is, in fact, a private orchestra, a small commercial firm - and effectively a private sector almost-an-umbrella firm of sorts. Under the umbrella are many many individual musicians who work together - as private contractors, working together - to produce the great film, TV, CD, Video game music and even ring tones for your phone. You may not know it is 'them,' nor who they are, individually, but the current orchestra (which is continually changing, slightly, in its makeup) continues a wonderful tradition of great film TV and similar 'big sound' music in Prague, that is now enjoyed around the world, for decades.
